Limestone or marble as a window sill
A natural stone window sill is both durable and unique. It serves as a classic choice for window sills—a worthwhile investment that becomes more beautiful over time and enhances the home’s character.
Both our Kolmården Marble and Borghamn limestone are well-suited for window sills. Each contributes its unique character to the home’s expression and atmosphere. A window sill made of natural stone is easy to maintain and highly durable.

Kolmården Marble as a window sill
Kolmården Marble offers a durable and distinctive option for window sills, featuring unique green veining that sets it apart from other materials. This robust stone enhances the elegance of your home with its remarkable appearance.

Limestone as a window sill
Limestone is a popular choice for window sills because of its natural beauty, durability, and unique appearance. Each limestone window sill has its own character, featuring subtle variations in color and pattern that add a vibrant and personal touch to your home. Borghamn limestone is available in two color variations: light gray and gray-brown. The soft, natural color range, which includes tones from light gray to warm gray-brown, blends well with most interior styles and creates a timeless atmosphere.

Surface treatment of window sills
When selecting a surface treatment for a window sill, the focus is primarily on its aesthetic appeal. Unlike kitchen worktops, window sills do not experience the same level of wear and tear, which opens up more options for surface treatments that may not be suitable for a worktop. For instance, a planed surface is an excellent choice for a windowsill since the risk of exposure to acids and moisture is lower.
If you’re uncertain about which surface treatment to choose, we’re here to help you make the right decision.

Edge Processing of Window Sills
The edge of a window sill plays a crucial role in the overall look you’re aiming for. We offer a wide range of edge treatments, from classic straight edges to low-cut edges, hand-carved by our skilled stonemasons. If you have a specific idea for your edge treatment, please reach out to us, and we can work together to find the perfect solution.
If you’re unsure about your options, we can help you choose the right edge treatment for your needs.

Window sill formats
At Borghamns Stenförädling, we focus solely on primary stone and do not use any reinforcements. We honor the natural cracks in our bedrock and adjust our production accordingly. This respect for natural features, combined with our quarrying techniques, enables us to extract the most significant blocks permissible under the bedrock. Consequently, the size of these blocks determines the maximum length and width of our stone slabs.
If your project requires larger slabs, we are more than happy to help by suggesting ways to split them.

Care instructions for window sills
To keep your window sills made of Borghamn limestone or Kolmården Marble looking their best, regular maintenance is important. Follow these tips to preserve their elegance and patina:
Wipe dry: Always dry up any spilled water immediately after watering plants.
Use the Right Cleaning Products: Use cleaning products specifically formulated for limestone or marble. For daily cleaning, a mixture of water and a small amount of natural soap will suffice.

Tips & Trix
For daily cleaning, a damp cloth is typically sufficient; for slightly more stubborn dirt, a small amount of natural soap is most effective. It cleans gently and helps maintain the stone’s surface.
For window sills, we recommend the following surface finishes: fine honed, brushed, and planed (ploughed). You can view examples of these finishes further down the page. If you’d like to see them in person, feel free to visit our office or request hand samples to be mailed to you.
We offer a variety of edge profiles, including straight visible edge, half-round edge, full-round edge, bush-hammered edge, rock-pitched edge, and classic profile. If you have a custom edge design idea, please contact us to discuss a solution. We custom-make everything to order, and our machinery allows for flexible options.
At Borghamns Stenförädling, we focus solely on working with primary stone without any reinforcement. This means we adapt to the natural fractures found in our bedrock. These natural fractures, along with our quarrying methods, enable us to extract blocks as large as the bedrock allows.
The dimensions of the blocks ultimately determine their maximum length and width. For example, the maximum length for Kolmården marble is approximately 1400-1500 mm, and for Borghamn limestone, it is around 1800 mm. If you require longer slabs, we are happy to provide suggestions for jointing. Rest assured, we make every effort to ensure the slabs fit together as seamlessly as possible.
