The sustainable building material
Swedish natural stone is one of the most sustainable building materials available. It not only lasts for several generations but is also produced locally using a fossil-free process. It’s difficult to find a more sustainable option than this.
In 2020, Borghamns Stenförädling became the first stone company in Sweden to transition to 100% fossil-free production. This achievement demonstrated that such a conversion is possible, prompting the Swedish Stone Industry Association to revise its goal for a fossil-free stone industry from 2040 to 2029. The transition means that all internal transport is powered exclusively by renewable fuels, the facilities are supplied with renewable energy, and all heating is provided by geothermal energy.
This investment aligns with the company’s business concept:
To mine and refine Swedish natural stone for both small and large customers while adhering to market-leading craftsmanship and sustainable production practices.

Circular economy
Borghamns Stenförädling is actively working towards achieving a circular economy. Natural stone has the advantage of being usable throughout its entire life cycle. During production, we generate residual material that cannot be utilized further. However, in various projects, this stone is repurposed for other uses, such as in jewelry manufacturing. Additionally, some material is returned to the quarry of origin, minimizing the impact of our natural stone extraction.
We are committed to going beyond this and are striving to make our operations 100% circular.
